Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of an Attorney Supervisor, the Attorney III assesses, reviews, and reports on internal investigations which arise from staff misconduct complaints and other grievances. The Attorney III monitors the performance of CDCR's Office of Legal Affairs, Employment and Advocacy and Prosecution team attorneys; Office of Internal Affairs (OIA) investigators; and hiring authorities to ensure the appropriateness of policies, practices, and investigative and disciplinary systems. Attorneys in this classification are expected to perform job duties with limited supervision, demonstrate the ability to think critically, and exercise sound judgement in executing job duties. Further, attorneys in this classification are expected to prepare written documents that do not require significant review and input from supervisory staff.

The designated Headquarters (HQ) for this position is in Sacramento County, and the selected candidate will be required to commute to their HQ office location as needed to meet operational needs. All commute expenses to the HQ location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

  • Advising agencies, entities, individuals, and the public.
  • Representing clients in litigation before civil service and criminal courts or administrative hearings.
  • Experience in employment law, criminal law, and administrative law
  • Ability to work independently, manage time and resources effectively, and meet deadlines with strict time constraints.
