Job Summary:  

The Fire Safety First Fire Alarm Technician is responsible for ensuring that fire alarm systems are installed, inspected, tested, and maintained to meet safety codes, regulations, and industry standards. They play a critical role in safeguarding lives and property by ensuring the functionality of these systems. 

  Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Installs, configures, and repairs fire alarm and fire suppression systems, including control panels, detectors, alarms, notification devices, wiring, troubleshooting, and communication interfaces. Ensures that installations adhere to design specifications and safety standards. 
  • Ensures compliance with NFPA-72, including performing annual device testing for fire alarm systems and complete and maintain all records required by NFPA-72. Performs flow tests, alarm tests, and other system checks. 
  • Inspects and assesses all components of fire alarm systems, including wiring, smoke control systems, detectors, fire sprinkler valves, notification appliances, and communication devices. Identifies and addresses signs of wear, damage, or malfunction. 
  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on fire alarm systems. Replaces faulty components, troubleshoot issues, and ensures proper system operation. 
  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots complex problems in fire alarm systems, such as false alarms, system malfunctions, or communication issues. Implements effective solutions. 
  • Ensures that all work, including installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair, adheres to local, state, and national fire safety codes, regulations, and industry standards. 
  • Maintains accurate and organized records of all inspections, tests, maintenance activities, repairs, system documentation and prepares daily activity reports. Documents compliance and corrective actions. 
  • Is available for emergency repair calls and responds promptly to restore fire alarm system functionality during critical situations. 
  • Interacts with clients, building owners, managers, and occupants to communicate inspection results, repair needs, and recommendations for improving fire safety. 
  • Adheres to all company employment policies and safe practices, specifically CAL OSHA and safety measures related to work. 
  • May be seldomly required to be on call to address emergency needs or after hours calls outside of the normal scheduled business hours. 
  • Prepares working sketches and works from blueprints, schematics, and written or verbal instructions. 

Experience/Training/Education:  

  • High school diploma or equivalent (relevant certifications, such as NICET Level I or II, state fire alarm licenses, and manufacturer-specific certifications, may be required). 
  • Proven experience as a Fire Alarm Technician, typically with at least 2-5 years of experience in fire alarm system installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair. 
  • Programming knowledge of EST-3, Bosch, Fire-Lite, Silent Knight is desired. 
  • In-depth knowledge of fire safety codes, regulations, and industry standards related to fire alarm systems. 
  • Strong technical skills for working with fire alarm systems, control panels, detectors, alarms, and communication devices.

Job Type:  

  • Full-time, on-site, Monday - Friday 
  • 40 hours a week
