Position Summary

The WashU Department of Neurology is actively seeking a dedicated and patient-oriented Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to fill an open position in the outpatient setting. The clinical sites are conveniently located at the Center 40 building in Brentwood, just south of I-64 and at the Center For Advanced Medicine off Forrest Park.

Clinical expectations for these full-time positions include 32 hours of clinic work per week, with an average of 10 patients seen during an 8-hour day. Telehealth clinics may also be a possibility, offering flexibility in patient care. This opportunity is ideal for someone seeking a balance of independence and a strong support system to address any questions or issues that may arise in the course of their clinical responsibilities.. Importantly, no evening or weekend clinics are expected of our APPs.

Our open position specializes in diagnosing and treating memory disorders, including Alzheimer disease, frontotemporal dementia, Lewy body dementia and vascular dementia. Our clinic is a leader in the implementation of new FDA approved treatments to help with reducing the amyloid plaques associated with Alzheimer disease.

This role comes with on-site support from engaged collaborating physicians, providing a robust support system. Additionally, easy access to sub-specialty resources and an outstanding clinical support staff at the RN level further enhance the working environment. While there will be some shared patients, the Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will have the opportunity to develop their own patient panel with guidance from the collaborating physician, ensuring a level of independence.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

• Provides direct patient care to include obtaining patient history, performing patient assessment via observation, interview and examination; orders, performs and interprets diagnostic studies; performs preventative health assessments, screenings, immunizations and care; provides direct treatment and management of acute and chronic disease conditions; develops and implements patient-centered plan of care in collaboration with physicians, patients, consultants, nurses, ancillary care providers and others as appropriate to the patient's condition.
• May bill for services covered by collaborative practice agreement.
• Provides counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers concerning disease management, complication prevention, disease prevention, and quality of life improvement measures, and outcome management activities.
• Monitors/ensures accuracy of patient medical records; maintains all required reports, records, statistics, etc.
• Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with established clinic/hospital standards.
• Manages health conditions via prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers or community resources; may perform diagnostic or therapeutic interventions consistent with certification and state regulations.
• Champions the safety and quality of care for patients using ITB therapy and serves as an expert in the care and management of ITB pumps. Helps develop a detailed educational program for the patients and lead the quality and safety initiative for the program.
• Serves as clinical expert regarding rehabilitation nursing while demonstrating a high level of autonomy and expert skill in complex clinical nursing situations.
• Provides management services for clinical research study projects; monitors participating subjects, including medication administration and family/patient education.
• Works in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, and safety, environmental and infection control standards.
• Regularly participates in constant quality improvement and process improvement activities centered on the goal of providing exceptional, evidence-based patient care.
• Enhances professional growth and development through educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.
• Contributes to the advancement of the rehabilitation nursing profession as a whole through research, publications, and presentations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Nurse Practitioner

• Master of Science in Nursing with emphasis in the Nurse Practitioner program.
• Advanced Practical Nurse licensure (or ability to successfully obtain licensure within three months of date of hire).
• Certain/additional certifications may be necessary based on area of specialty.
• Basic Life Support certification (Online Basic Life Support certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the Basic Life Support requirements).

Physician Assistant

• Graduate of PA program.
• Current PA licensure to practice in the state of Missouri and/or Illinois, depending on location, or ability to obtain within three months of date of hire.
• Certain/additional certifications may be necessary based on area of specialty.
• Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).

Education:

Salary Range

$86,300.00 - $155,500.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
