Job Description

Matrix designs, manufactures, and sells innovative technological products that help keep people safe. Originally focused on the underground coal mining industry, Matrix has expanded into new industrial markets in the United States and globally.

We are currently seeking a Quality Engineer. This role is critical to maintaining product integrity from concept through manufacturing, distribution, and support. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in quality systems, problem-solving skills, and passion for continuous improvement. This position works in a team environment at our home office in Newburgh, IN with occasional travel. This is not a remote position.

This position reports to the Director of Quality.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality procedures aligned with ISO 9001 and industry standards.
  • Monitor and evaluate manufacturing processes, recommending, and implementing improvements to ensure consistent product quality.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) for non-conformances, field failures, and customer complaints.
  • Conduct internal and supplier audits to ensure compliance with quality management systems and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with design, production, and support teams to ensure quality is embedded across the product lifecycle.
  • Analyze quality performance data and generate reports for management review.
  • Support qualification and validation of new products, processes, and suppliers.
  • Participate in cross-functional continuous improvement initiatives, including Lean and Six Sigma projects.
  • Train personnel on quality procedures, standards, and best practices.

Qualifications & Competencies

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience in a quality engineering role within a manufacturing or industrial environment; experience with safety-critical products preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015, CAPA, FMEA, SPC, and auditing practices.
  • Experience with root cause analysis tools (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagram, 8D).
  • Certifications such as CQE, CQA, or Six Sigma Green Belt a plus.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Working Conditions

  • The working conditions for this position are within a climate-controlled building. The noise levels most times are nominal.
