Job Description

Position: Certified Dog Trainer

Reports to: General Manager, Assistant Managers

Purpose

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Dog Trainer to conduct group classes as well as one on one training sessions with dogs attending daycare. This position requires an enthusiastic, patient approach to dealing with the dogs; ability to learn and adhere to the Bark + Boarding’s standards and procedures; and ability to practice humane treatment of the dogs at all times. The Dog Trainer’s responsibilities include evaluating dogs dispositions and temperaments, providing progress updates to clients, and teaching clients how to reinforce good behavior. You should also be able to answer clients’ questions regarding training, behavioral issues, other services offered by Bark + Boarding and pricing. 

At Bark + Boarding we only use positive reinforcement training techniques. This includes clicker training, treat based training, verbal reward markers

Responsibilities

Operations

• Consulting with clients to discuss behavioral concerns and training needs.
• Identifying additional behavioral concerns and communicating those with the client.
• Developing suitable training plans for dogs and documenting their progress.
• Teaching dogs to obey basic commands using various positive reinforcement based training techniques
• Contacting clients to schedule training appointments and verify/confirm upcoming appointments. 

Qualifications

• High School Degree or GED
• Certification through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT) is advantageous.
• Sound knowledge of positive reinforcement dog training techniques as well as animal behavior and body language.
• Proven experience working as a Dog Trainer.
• Excellent problem solving, organizational, and time management skills.
• Strong dog handling skills.
• Effective communication skills.
• Patience, enthusiasm and a strong love for dogs!
• Physical Requirements
• Maintaining a professional demeanor and dress at all times in the workplace. A clean appearance and positive attitude helps convey respect for customers and co-workers.
• Ability to stand, sit or walk for extended periods of time. 
• Ability to bend, lift and reach.
• Ability to safely handle and maintain control of dogs of all sizes, up to 150lbs, on leash. 

Compensation

Compensation will be commission based. Hours and schedule are somewhat flexible, but would require at least 4 days/week.
